Latham Appointed to the Board of National Trade Body
With the recruitment industry about to introduce the most significant legislation ever in the Agency Workers Regulations, this year’s REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s) Annual General Meeting, held on 22nd June 2011, took on extra significance.
The main point on the agenda this year was the appointment of new directors to the board, whose role it will be to help oversee these new regulations. One of the successful nominee’s was Greg Latham, MD at Encore Personnel, who was one of 5 newly elected individual directors.
Latham commented, “My main interest in standing for the Council was my desire to see some of the excellent work that the REC achieves in terms of lobbying, compliance and professional standards, expressed more effectively to our most important audience – our clients.”
“The REC have made some big leaps forward in attempting to market the perceptions of the industry externally but there is so much more that it can do. I would like it to be more involved with communicating directly with our customers – they really need to know the benefits of using REC members’ agencies.”
By being appointed, Greg Latham will have a greater insight into what new legislation is due to be introduced, help with raising recruitment standards and to influence these decisions – all of which he will be able to pass on to Encore’s consultants and more importantly clients.
The REC is the representative body for the UK’s private recruitment and staffing industry with a membership of more than 3,600 corporate members (with more than 8,000 branches) comprising agencies and businesses from across all sectors and 5,500 members of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP) made up of recruitment consultants and other industry professionals. All members must abide by an REC Code of Professional Practice.
