Encore Director becomes a Bin Man for Charity
Chris Hockey, Director at Leicester based Encore Personnel Services, became a bin man for the day to raise money for a local charity. ‘Donate a Day’, the charity initiative set up by Encore Personnel for 2011 will see each staff member donating a working day, where they will work on the site of one of the companies clients.
The clients, in turn, will then pay for the hours worked at the applicable hourly rate and the money raised will then be donated to the local charity at the end of the year, when all staff members have done their bit.Chris Hockey decided to do his stint for charity by working as a bin man for Blaby District council. Starting work at 7am on a Friday morning Chris joined up with his crew, consisting of Bob the driver and two fellow loaders Jamie and Rich.
The route took in Countesthorpe, where Chris used to live and go to school, with a poignant moment where he even emptied the bin of his old house on Cherry Tree Close.
Chris commented “Working as a bin man for the day certainly opened my eyes to how challenging this job can be. The job is very physical, you are working outdoors in all weathers and you have to keep up with the rest of the crew, you don’t want to be the one slowing them down.”
Danny Davis, Environmental Supervisor at Blaby District Council, stated “Chris didn’t do too bad for an office worker. You have to cover a lot of miles in a day and the job can be quite physically demanding. We have had far younger people in the past struggle with the demands of the job so he did well.”
Encore Personnel hope to raise in excess of £5000 across the company from the ‘Donate a Day’ scheme, which will go to a range of charities including Wishes for Kids and the Leicester Alzheimer’s Society.
Encore are no strangers to charity work, raising in excess of £10,000 over the last 3 years including £5,800 for Huntington’s Disease when they completed a sponsored walk up Edale and the ‘3 Peaks 24 hour Challenge’
Chris Hockey continued, “Encore as a company believes in giving something back and this scheme will hopefully get every member of staff involved, raising money for the local charities that they themselves have chosen.”
If you would like to get involved and allow one of Encore’s consultants to work on site at your company for a day and raise money for charity please contact Phil Tilt on 0116 2620651
