Does flexible working lower stress levels?

A new report by Dr Ken Beaumont from workforce Logistics has alleged that having flexible working habits lowers stress levels considerably.

These small changes such as flexible starting times can have a beneficial effect on employees and in turn increase productivity for the business. Dr Ken Beaumont went on to say that he believes that requests for flexible working should be an employee’s right rather than a privilege that has to be justified.

REC, the Recruitment & Employment Confederation believes that public sector bodies should move in favour of a flexible working model. The organisation says the government’s austerity measures mean the public sector will have to embrace flexible working to adapt to the new stringencies.

Dr Ken Beaumont also claims developing a good work and personal life balance that lets them fit work around outside interests makes for a much happier workforce, lowering stress levels.

Moreover, the Government recently announced more detail on its plans to introduce more flexibility surrounding parental leave.

The Department for Business Innovation & Skills will be launching a consultation which will explore the potential possibilities of designing a more flexible system for parental leave.

Additionally, the consultation will also look at ways of extending rights for employees when requesting for flexible working plans.
