Maternity, paternity and adoption leave

This table is a summary of employees' entitlements to Ordinary Maternity Leave (OML), Additional Maternity Leave (AML), Paternity Leave (PL) and Adoption Leave (AL) including how much notice they have to give you and minimum statutory payments. Employees may be entitled to longer periods of leave or higher payments where this is specified in their contract of employment.

Who?   What?  How?
 OML Pregnant employees earning at least £82 per week with 26 weeks' continuous service by the end of the 15th week before the week the baby is due

Other pregnant employees		 26 weeks, with 90 per cent of normal pay for first 6 weeks and lesser of £117.18 or 90 per cent of normal pay for next 20 weeks.

26 weeks unpaid - some may be able to claim Maternity Allowance		 Notify employer before the end of 15th week before the week the baby is due
AML  All pregnant employees with 26 weeks' continuous service by 15th week before the week the baby is due 26 weeks' unpaid leave after the end of OML (making a total of 52 weeks in all) As for OML
PL  Fathers/ partners with 26 weeks' continuous service ending with the 15th week before the week the baby is due Either 1 or 2 consecutive weeks up to 56 days after the birth. Lesser of £117.18 or 90 per cent of normal pay. Notify employer before the end of the 15th week before the week the baby is due
 AL Adopting parent with 26 weeks' continuous service ending with the week in which they are notified of match for adoption 52 weeks' leave of which 26 weeks at lesser of £117.18 or 90 per cent of normal pay and 26 weeks unpaid. Notify employer within 7 days of being notified they have been matched with a child for adoption and at least 26 days in advance of taking leave, if practicable
