How to find a training provider/course

What kind of training do you need?

The right training for you and your staff will increase the sum or range of skills, knowledge or attributes available to your business. It will also keep you and your staff up-to-date with changes in the law and in business best practice.  But it will only make good business sense if it also improves your business' performance.

Before choosing a type of training or a training provider, you should therefore align your training needs with your business strategy. The best way to do that is by carrying out a training needs analysis (TNA).

A TNA is a systematic way to investigate your business training needs and provide you with information needed to make good training decisions - the ones to make your business more successful. A TNA will allow you to:

• assess the current skills level of individuals in your business
• quantify the total skills available to your business
• identify the skills needed to take your business forward
• analyse the gap between your business' current skills resources and future skills needs
• plan for bridging that gap with appropriate training

When carrying out a TNA, it makes good business sense to:

• consider the full range of training available, such as professional and personal training, and process-related skills
• consider the different levels at which training can occur, including organisational, departmental and individual levels
• distinguish between individuals' training wants and the training needs of your business
• carry out a full cost/benefit analysis for each training need
