Brussels wants 60-hour limit on working week

Employers are to be confronted with revised legislation that will impose a maximum 60-hour working week.  Earlier this year Britain agreed that it would retain its opt-out of the 48-hour week under a EU Working Time Directive.

Minimum wage rise now in force

Maternity leave changes take effect

Maternity leave changes that were introduced on 6 April 2008 came into effect for employees whose babies were expected on or after 5 October 2008. This might apply to women who have recently started their maternity leave as well as those starting maternity leave from now on.

As car makers bring in a three-day week, recruitment is really suffering, a recruiter has claimed. According to The Times newspaper, motor manufacturers including Ford, Bentley and Land Rover are bringing in three and four-day weeks as car production slumps.
