End in sight for the default retirement age of 65

After months of speculation, the government has now announced a consultation exercise on phasing out the default retirement age of 65 from 6 April 2011 with its eventual removal from 1 October 2011.

The Association of Recruitment Consultancies welcomes David Cameron’s comments concerning the rights of agency workers. In response to the Prime Minister’s indication that a review should be on the basis of how the existing laws affect ease of employment
